Reverend Ken Spivey

Ken Spivey comes to us from a varied background including sixyears of service in the U.S. Air Force, nine years in music ministry at various locations over the years, and most recently, seven years as pastor of the Asbury United Methodist Church near Ozark, Alabama.

A native of Enterprise, Alabama, Ken’s family was very active at First United Methodist in Enterprise throughout his growing-up years. At a Sunday evening service in June of 1970, at the age of fourteen, Ken responded to the invitation to ask Christ into his heart as Savior and Lord, and has sought to live for Him from that time forward. Ken graduated from Enterprise High in 1974, and from Troy State University with a B.S. in Music Education in 1977. While attending Troy State, he also served as minister of music at Denton Road UMC in Dothan.

Having attended college on an R.O.T.C. scholarship, Ken was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the Air Force, attended pilot training in Oklahoma, and served for five years as an instructor pilot, and general transport pilot. During his years in the Air Force he was active in the base chapel program, and directed the chapel choir at Vance AFB for three years.

Following his Air Force years, Ken attended Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, KY from 1986 to 1989, and received the Master of Divinity degree. While in seminary, Ken met Jo Boyd, who was attending seminary in the Masters in Christian Education program. Ken and Jo became engaged in September of 1987, and were married in Vienna, Virginia, Jo’s hometown, in June of 1988.

Following graduation from Asbury Seminary, Ken and Jo served for 6 years at Lafayette St. UMC in Dothan, AL, where Ken was the associate pastor, and Jo worked with youth and children’s ministry. In 1995 they were appointed to Asbury UMC near Ozark, AL, where Ken pastored and Jo served as a volunteer in the education, children’s, and children’s music ministries of the church.

After tenyears of marriage, in September of 1998, God blessed Ken and Jo with the arrival of Stephen Wesley Spivey. You may see Stephen around the church wearing his trademark green flipflops!
